Camping Tent Version 1

One of the great things about the Windrider 17 is being able to sleep in the main hull and camp on the beach for the night. A 2 inch camping mat in the floor with the forward seat removed makes a great bed.

This is the first camping tent arrangement that I used. I found this really neat mesh bug screen/tent that is made to sit over a single sleeping bag by itself. It just happens to be the PERFECT size for the forward hatch of the Windrider 17.

It has some really thin fiberglass poles fo the canopy part. The only problem with them is that they are not linked together - there are 5 sections that make up each pole (two poles total).

I have to be very careful putting it together.

The manufacturer's web site says there is a new version with the pole sections bungeed together, but I haven't been able to find it. I ordered this one from Campmor for $26. Its product name is "SleepScreen".

The whole bag is only about 2 inches in diameter and 9 inches long! Very easy to stow.

My wife sewed on some small webbing tie-downs at 6 places around the bottom edge.

And then she even made a rain fly to go over everything - complete with mast hole at one end!6 tie-down tabs keep it open and the rain off. It attaches to the underside of the boom with bugee cords through some more tabs.

I use a sail-stop slider in the luff groove to keep the boom from slipping down all the way. This also allows me to adjust the boom height to raise and lower the entire rain cover. The main halyard holds up the aft end of the boom.
