Yes, that is a fishing rod holder lying horizontally on the foredeck of my Windrider. No, it is not used for fishing. Any hope of aesthetics out the window -----it is my bowsprit holder!
I used a peice of aluminum tubing that had an outer diameter the same as the inner diameter of the rod holder (next time I may realize that the holder inside diameter has a slight taper!)
I put four eyestraps around the end of the tube, three of which are used for light stays. I used some of that high-strength, low stretch spider line ($10 for a bunch of it on ebay!) with some mini-snap shackles so that it could be easily removed and stowed.
This is not a surfing-in-40 knot-winds kind of setup. It is the same as my last spinnaker arrangement: a 0-1 knot winds, bob-and-bake, setup.
The spinnaker is a horribly cut sail from ebay that is way huge, and that's all that matters to me right now. I just wanted something when there is NO wind to be had.
I also had no intention of using the jib and the spinnaker at the same time. The sprit was only long enough to have the furling drums clear each other so that it would be easy to stow away when not needed.
Harken mini-furler (ebay again!) and a fairlead on the deck to make sure the furling line comes out at the right angle.
I had to find some really thin furling line because the sail needs so many wraps and the drum is so small it was filling up too quickly with the fatter line I started with.
