Storage Ideas

Here is a collection of ideas for storage in/around the WR17. There is a long list of varied options below, so KEEP SCROLLING!

I found these shower holders at the dollar store. They looked thin enough to not be a problem along the sides of the seat in the aft cockpit.

First I cut the "hanger" part off and rounded/smoothed the edges.

Then I cut a curve in the front edge so that it would be easier to get things in and out since I had planned on mounting close to the cockpit coaming.

A couple of screws and voila!

This was a really nice addition and gets used A LOT!

I found these neat zippered pouches at the office supply store - they had grommets at the top to go into a 3-ring binder.

I made sure the zipper was plastic so it wouldn't rust.

They are clear so you can see what's inside and they even look like expensive sail material!

I a few different things for storage up under the coaming of the front cockpit. I tried the mesh auto nets, PVC pipe, nothing has worked to perfection yet.

In the meantime, I put some bungees along the edge, using the existing screws and some wire cable holders.

They work fine for now, until I find........... IT!

I found a fender with a curved top that works kind of well on the ama tube.

I made sure that it fit through the ama hatch for storage because there wasn't room for much else in the main hull!

It's the smaller of the two made by Taylor called "Low Freeboard Fender" if you want to find one.

The problem with storing things in the amas is that they can get lost and migrate from one end to the other. Unless you are Rubberman, you can't reach to get it back!

This idea belowis used on a lot of larger sailboats for "stuff" stored down in lockers.

I used a small stainless "tang" and rebolted one of the hatch screws to include it. Before bolting it in, I put a nylon ring through the loop. The tang and ring are shown here.

Here is what they look like installed inside the ama.

Here is what it looks like in action!

I put a small caribiner on the fender lanyard and just clip it to the ring for storage. Now it can slide anwhere it wants to, and I can still pull it out.

Now, if I could only find out how to get a lanyard/caribiner on that six-pack.........
